Authorization to Test (ATT)
The official document allowing a candidate to schedule the NCLEX
Definition
The Authorization to Test (ATT) is the document issued by the state board of nursing authorizing a candidate to schedule the NCLEX at a Pearson VUE testing center. It includes a validity window (typically 90 days).
Process
- Apply for licensure with state board of nursing
- Register with Pearson VUE and pay exam fee
- State board sends ATT via email
- Schedule exam within ATT validity period
- Arrive at test center with required ID and ATT
Implications
Without a valid ATT, a candidate cannot sit for the exam. Missing the validity window requires reapplication and refee payment.
